Inspiration

I am contemplating inspiration. What is inspiration? Where does it come from? It is tied to spirit from the origin of the word itself (see below) and in my experience. What makes inspiration come in full force at times and seem to disappear at others? Is it somehow gone, or are we just not acting on it or listening to it? Maybe we just don't have the time to respond to it?

Looking back on my blog, there are many posts in 2013 and 2014 when I started the blog, but not many in the 2015 or this year. My inspiration/call to write varies and it seems I am most inspired when my spiritual path is more fulfilled/on track. But sometimes I am fulfilled and not writing. I am just content or my focus is elsewhere. I don't think it necessarily means that I have not been inspired at all in the recent years, but just inspired in a different way and not feeling drawn to do the poetry or writing at these times. But I do feel that when I am most in sync with my spirit, the poetry and writing just flow from me. It is a good sign that I am on track. I am wondering if right now maybe another form of writing is coming as I seem to be drawn to post about my thoughts on certain words/topics.

Here are some definitions of inspiration:
  • the process of being mentally stimulated to do or feel something, especially to do something creative.
  • something that makes someone want to do something or that gives someone an idea about what to do or create
  • a force or influence that inspires someone
  • a person, place, experience, etc., that makes someone want to do or create something
  • a divine influence or action on a person believed to qualify him or her to receive and communicate sacred revelation
  • the action or power of moving the intellect or emotions
  • a divine influence directly and immediately exerted upon the mind or soul
  • the divine quality of the writings or words of a person so influenced
  • a sudden brilliant, creative or timely idea
Origin of the word inspiration:
Middle English (in the sense ‘divine guidance’): via Old French from late Latin inspiratio(n-), from the verb inspirare (see inspire).

Origin of word inspire:
Middle English enspire, from Old French inspirer, from Latin inspirare ‘breathe or blow into,’ from in- ‘into’ + spirare ‘breathe.’ The word was originally used of a divine or supernatural being, in the sense ‘impart a truth or idea to someone.’

Origin is similar to that for the word spirit:
Middle English: from Anglo-Norman French, from Latin spiritus ‘breath, spirit,’ from spirare ‘breathe.’

So it seems that when the word originated they knew that spirit was tied to inspiration. Breathe into. I like that. Spirit is tied to breath and we connect to spirit with our breath. So we breathe life into our creations when we are inspired. Spirit and inspiration are really one in the same. The creations are an extension of our spirit and what it is experiencing or wants to express. It is truly a part of ourselves that is being expressed out into the world for everyone to experience, to connect them to our spirit and remember that we are one. We all breathe the same air and come from the same source. Inspiration is truly a result of living in tune with our spirit even if for a brief moment in time. One breath, one moment is all it takes and that spark of inspiration can fuel our lives for many more moments and even days or years or a lifetime.

When I look back at the result of my inspirations, it feeds my spirit and soul. I can remember the feeling that inspired the work. It takes me back to that moment and fuels me again. It breathes that life back into me once more. It is an amazing feeling to both be inspired and relive that through your creations.

I think that if we listen and get quiet and let everything but our spirit/breath fall away, then we tune into the universal force of inspiration and creation. It becomes effortless and flows from us as from a fountain. The eternal spring. It is never ending and we can all partake of it if we but allow it. We each have different things that inspire us and unique ways of expressing that inspiration, but it is all connected and that is why when we encounter something inspired, it touches us deep in our core. We tap into that source from which it came and if we breathe it in, we can fuel our own spark of inspiration.

Beautiful Day

Perfection can be found
     in the simplest of things

In the sun shining warmly
     in a clear blue sky
as it finds just the right places to land

In the breeze sweetly blowing
     on your face
     each time you need refreshed

In the delightful mix of sun and air
     that begs for you to
             Breathe It
             Soak in It
             Bathe in It
until you have had your fill
             and then some

In the onset of dusk
     that signals you
     to come and see
the end of a glorious show

In the colorful flowers
     showing off their blooms
as they fill the evening air
     with their wonderful aroma

In the crunch of the leaves
     underneath your feet
     as you stroll along
     the peaceful streets

In the trees reaching down
to greet you as you pass
     with a cheery hello
and a nod of their head

In the pink-streaked sky
as the sun takes it rest
     after working hard
     to brighten our lives

In the wink of the crescent moon
as it makes a surprise appearance
     while the sun
finishes its bedtime routine

In a day that was so beautiful in every way

     from beginning to end
     that your spirit soars
     to heaven to thank it
     for letting you truly
             See It
             Touch It
             Taste It
             Smell It
             Hear It
                 and
             Feel It
     with all the senses
     blessed upon you

Sounds of Silence

I am looking at sound
Flowing freely through the air
Emanating from each source
Searching for a destination

From lips as they speak
From a mouth as it gasps
or widens in a scream
From a tongue as it vibrates
pouring forth a song

From birds as they call
From children as they play
From babies as they cry
From friends as they laugh

From cars as they pass
From bells as they ring
From dishes as they clank
From a pan as it sizzles

From a dog as it barks
From a cat as it purrs
From a ball as it whooshes
past a player at home plate

From water as it drips
From rain as it patters
From waves as they crash
upon the soft sand

A myriad of sounds
We hear in every moment
Pass by us as we rush
Through our hectic day

Even gaps in between
echo as they fall
Between the cracks
in the pavement of our lives

If for a moment
We pause to take a breath
They are vivid in our sight
Surrounding us in the silence
At the core of our existence

The Fire Within

Spark
It starts
The Flame
Ignites

Flicker
Fade
No breath
In sight

Whoosh
It Bursts
The Flame
Burns bright

Sacred Fire
Keep
Emitting
Your light

The Pause

As I walk with intention
Life flows in me
Youthfulness returns to me
Time quietly pauses
Mindfulness works a miracle
Every moment is magical
Silence prevails
One breath at a time

Yoga and Meditation Journal - Week of 10/7/13

Another great week so far continuing my twice daily yoga and meditation practices, as well as the daily walking. I am feeling so good and energized. I am inspired to keep it going. My diet has also improved as a result of being more in tune with my body.

On My Mat

I step onto my mat

I Breathe
               in
                   the
                         Silence
I drop
           all
                 my
                        burdens

                 I
         Awaken
           every
            pore

        My Spirit
            feels

             its
        heartbeat

            It is

           Free
             to
         explore

I pledge
             Acceptance

I dismiss
              all
                   my
                        flaws

        I move to
       the rhythm
              of
         my inner
           Guide

       The stress

         releases
            and

     my thoughts
         subside

       The quiet
    transports me
      To a realm
            of
          pure
          Bliss

       Feelings
            of
         Peace

      Permeate
           my
          Soul

          The
       myriad
       pieces
      become

       Whole

I lie
       in
            Shavasana

I slow
          down
                    my
                          Breath

I savor
            every
                     Moment

I Treasure
             every
                    part

     I place them

        carefully
      deep inside

       my Heart

       Namaste

Yoga and Meditation - 9/27/13

I went to a Restorative Yoga workshop Friday night and it was wonderful. 2 hours of pure relaxation. Then I meditated for about 20 minutes when I came home.

The Gifts of Meditation

I sit in stillness as my breath ebbs and flows;
I feel the ground beneath me as the quiet grows.

My heart expands as it opens and alights;
My spirit soars, and with each breath, it ignites.

The light grows stronger from the heavens above;
As my heart is filled with peace and with love.

The anger and sadness are released easily;
As I embrace inner peace and harmony.

God’s grace is a gift he freely gives;
To each of us every day that we live.

Walk With Me

The clouds speak to me with white wisps across the sky;
The birds beckon as they fly.

The sun warms me as I walk amidst the trees;
Nature calls to me with every breeze.

My mind quiets as I listen to the sounds;
Sweet stillness echoes and resounds.

Little flowers flock amongst the grass;
Fluttering along the path as I pass.

The joy and beauty is there for all to see,
So won’t you come and walk along with me?

Within my breath,

And Love and Light.
